Plant of the week
Prunus 'Royal Burgundy'
In spring, small, pendent clusters of rose-pink, double flowers appear amongst the newly emerging foliage of this pretty tree. The foliage is initially bronze, but quickly turns to a deep reddish-purple, making a delicious contrast to the flowers.
A great tree for smaller gardens, it has a rounded habit with slightly spreading branches and the leaves will colour up nicely in autumn. In winter, after all the leaves have fallen, the peeling copper-red bark will provide further interest.
